Why we created GAOPÉ

An initial observation
Contemporary European fashion holds a paradox: Europe, the birthplace of the greatest couture houses, abounds with textile traditions of unparalleled richness. Yet, today, finding clothes made on European soil is almost a quest.
Major platforms do not mention the place of manufacture or do not make it a criterion. As for designers faithful to this approach, they remain scattered, invisible, deprived of a common stage.
It is from this observation that GAOPÉ was born.
A definition
We could have settled for a nice speech about craftsmanship and know-how. We preferred to start from a precise legal definition: that of the European Customs Code, which determines the origin of a product by the place of its last substantial transformation.
Specifically: a garment is European at GAOPÉ when it has been manufactured in one (or more) Member State of the European Union (cutting, sewing, assembly). The raw materials may come from elsewhere. What matters is the act of making.
This definition is verifiable. It is based on documents (manufacturing invoices, workshop attestations) that we request from brands as part of our verification process. This commitment is also formalized: each brand signs a charter by which it commits to the place of manufacture of its pieces.
What we are not
GAOPÉ is not an impersonal platform drowned under thousands of sellers. We choose selection. Each brand is chosen for its strong identity, its authentic aesthetic quality, the transparency of its manufacturing, and the fairness of its prices.
We are neither a label nor a certification. We do not claim infallibility. We put in place rigorous verification processes and act quickly as soon as non-compliance is detected.
What we are: editorial curation dedicated to those who aspire to consume differently and to designers who deserve to finally be brought into the spotlight.
What we want to build
Ultimately, GAOPÉ aims to become the reference for all those who are looking for a more singular and European fashion, whether they are consumers or professionals.
We also want to promote this know-how. Portuguese workshops, Italian weavers, and French designers who work in the shadows deserve to take their place in the collective consciousness. Not as mere curiosities, but as vibrant economic actors.
This is a work of patience and demanding standards. We proceed meticulously, piece by piece, brand by brand.
An invitation
If you are reading these lines, it is undoubtedly because you share with us this conviction: the way a garment comes to life matters. Origin is not a detail.
